REDSEAL BROADENS SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT CAPABILITIES WITH KEY MANAGEMENT APPOINTMENTS

Industry veteran Sundar Raj named new VP, Product Development; Hom Bahmanyar becomes VP, Engineering

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — March 5, 2015 — RedSeal (redseal.co), the network security certification company, today announced plans to greatly expand the company’s software development capabilities with two major executive appointments. Sundar Raj, who has been a force in the networking industry for more than two decades, has come aboard as the new VP, Product Development. Meanwhile, Hom Bahmanyar, who currently serves as Sr. Director of Engineering, is taking on broadened responsibilities as the new VP, Engineering.

“Our company is now squarely focused on growth and innovation. Over the past year we’ve greatly enhanced our core product and expanded its capabilities while increasing overall quality,” said Ray Rothrock, chairman and CEO at RedSeal. “Sundar and Hom each have a tremendous track record in leading the development of innovative enterprise software, and that’s why they’re both vital to our future. We’re very excited to have them on the team.”

Sundar Raj was most recently Sr. Director, Enterprise Mobility at the global conglomerate CA Technologies, and earlier spent time at Sagemcom USA, where he was Managing Director/VP, Broadband Software. Sundar was a founding member of Network TeleSystems, a pioneer in network protocol stack, applications, IP address management and VPN systems. During his tenure he built several networking products for enterprise and for large carriers deploying broadband (xDSL) technologies, He has several patents in networking area and his expertise includes IP protocols, security, VPN, mobile apps and SaaS implementation.

“At every position I’ve held, and in every kind of company, I’ve understood the critical importance of network security—it’s a strategic concern that should run throughout the enterprise from the boardroom on down, and too often that doesn’t happen,” Mr. Raj noted. “I’m excited to join a company where that is the essential mandate, and I look forward to helping RedSeal develop technologies and specific capabilities that can offer the level of security this threat environment demands.”

Similarly, Hom Bahmanyar has established a strong record as a results-driven engineering leader with proven skills in engineering execution, building highperformance engineering teams, and retaining a strong customer focus. He also brings a blue-chip background to his new position: Before joining RedSeal, he spent a decade at Cisco, most recently as director of engineering. Earlier in his career he was manager of software development at Savvion and senior software engineer at Novell Inc. In his new role, he will be primarily responsible for ensuring integration with products from other enterprise security and network vendors.

“No technology functions in a vacuum—this is a completely multi-platform, multi-vendor environment — and every aspect of security needs to recognize that reality,” Mr. Bahmanyar noted. “I’ve always been drawn to companies that thrive in challenging environments by building on both existing and emerging capabilities, and RedSeal has exactly that philosophy. I’m thrilled to be part of this team of innovators, and look forward to doing my part to harden network infrastructures around the world.”

Natural Grocers Investigates Data Breach

SecurityWeek | Mar 3, 2015

“The movement of the attackers laterally within the internal network underscores a reality of modern networks: attacks are automated, patient, multi-step, and multi-phase,” said Steve Hultquist, chief evangelist at RedSeal. “Attackers probe for weaknesses, then use each weakness to dig further into the network, uncovering more weaknesses and further value each step.”

Data at risk for about 50,000 current and former Uber drivers

SC Magazine | Mar 2, 2015

Uber announced on Friday that unauthorized access was gained to one of its databases in May 2014. That type of personal data can be used to obtain additional information on an individual, which can then be leveraged to commit identity theft, Steve Hultquist, chief evangelist at RedSeal, told SCMagazine.com in a Monday email correspondence.

Natural Grocers investigating unauthorized access to POS systems

SC Magazine | Mar 2, 2015

That the company “can firmly state what kind of data was not stolen, because they simply do not gather it, is strong evidence of one of the emerging truths of cybersecurity: if you keep something, someone will test your defenses, and if they aren’t perfect, they’ll take whatever you kept,” said Dr. Mike Lloyd, CTO at RedSeal, in a statement sent to SCMagazine.com. “As a result, the new rules say don’t keep it if you don’t need it.”

From Community Emergency Preparedness To Network Security — Here’s What We Need To Know

Forbes | Feb 26, 2015

Most corporations readily acknowledge that cybersecurity is a big deal, and that threats are escalating. There’s also a greater concentration of risk now, thanks to technology trends such as cloud infrastructures and mobility. Networks are unquestionably the foundation of every modern business, and understanding how that network operates, is managed and is protected is vital. If the network is compromised, the entire business is compromised.

KCBS Interview on Obama’s information sharing initiative

I recently recorded an interview with KCBS, on Obama’s announcement of the Cyber Threat Intelligence Integration Center.  I do believe this is good news, but I confess, I worry about the way all these proposals indicate how data will go in to the government, with very little said about how anything will ever come out.  In the scope of a 5 minute live interview, there wasn’t a lot of time for that kind of subtlety!
